SMITHFIELD FOODS
Poland and Romania
Smithfield is the American division of the world’s largest pork producers and is now processing throughout Europe. Mercury Technologies was deeply involved in their initial thrust into eastern Europe as Smithfield acquired, modernized and modified multiple abattoirs and processing facilities in Poland and Romania. We provided conceptual and detailed designs, bid documents, oversaw the tendering processes and provided technical support throughout construction and commissioning. Working with local and international contractors and in close cooperation with Smithfield’s own staff on site and in the US, Mercury Technologies' support led to successful projects in slaughtering processing and distribution.
GCCA / MCC
Ghana
Working through the Global Cold Chain Alliance (a US organisation facilitating networking for the perishable food industry) for MCC (a US government agency whose mission is to reduce global poverty), Mercury Technologies investigated the pineapple and mango harvesting and distribution network in Ghana, with the goal of providing improvements for the small farmer.
DALEHEAD
United Kingdom
Although Danish Crown (through their Tulip Meats division) use Mercury Technologies extensively for ammonia risk management support, Dalehead Foods division employed our service to carry out complete design and construction technical support of a pig pre-chill at their Spalding facility. The project formed part of an overall site conversion from R22 to ammonia which saw the replacement and significant upgrade of the refrigeration systems for all storage and production areas plus completely redesigned carcase chills. With weight-loss, production rate and cooling time targets set by the client, the chills and pre-chill exceeded all these goals.
